China Shanghai, to the end of a smokescreen?

Among the signs that should suggest to wine merchants that seismic risks are to come.

According to the China Chamber of Commerce, nearly 2,000 wine importers have just stopped their activity during the first five months of the year. At the beginning of 2019, there were 6,411 importers of wine (in bottles) compared to 4,175 today. This means that 2,236 importers are disappearing, i.e. nearly 35%!

A lack of interest that Chinese statistics showed as early as 2018. And in 2019, the trend seems to be continuing. The China Association of Imports and Exports of Wine & Spirits has just published the import figures for June 2019: – 19.45% in value and -14.09% in volume for all wine imports into China, all countries combined. And the insurrectional situation in Hong Kong may not improve things*.
