White wines are popular during aperitif
The French don’t consume exactly the same way at home and when they are out and about. Still red wines, for example, also dominate out-of-home purchases (40% of total wines by volume), but they are trailed by rosés (35% by volume) and white wines (23%), which outperform outside.
White wines, on the other hand, are widely purchased in restaurants. They are popular during the aperitif: this occasion of consumption represents 32% of purchases for whites against 9% for rosés and 5% for reds.*
